Tonight is the "night before" the election. The night before, I hope, they will all be quiet, already! But I have to think of many other "nights before": the night before we got married; the night before our first child was born; and the night before the stray cat I brought home gave birth to six kittens! Nothing that speeches, articles, ads, or debates have shown me can rival those. By the time tomorrow is over, we will have elected the new president. Newscasters will be going over every detail of what happened for those who didn't learn about it. The public will be satisfied that we have done our civic duty. Winners will be dropping ceilings full of balloons. Losers will be trying to smile as they congratulate them. Everybody will have an opinion about what went right or wrong for their interests. Everybody will also be curious about what the new official has planned, which is most likely NOT what they said it would be in their campaign. For those of us who will be living with the newly elected, we will be wondering to what degree our votes mattered.
This edition of JustMom is short for two reasons: first, my husband will be traveling this week and will have little time to spend on publishing it and second, Yours Truly is looking forward to casting my vote tomorrow after he gets home from work and then IGNORING THE MEDIA ENTIRELY! To everyone, I hope your wishes came true. Just Mom |
